Once again I am writing from a world that is very quiet. It certainly has been a long 15 months. But I see sun on the horizon as our vaccination numbers increase. Small steps will get us to the goal of some sort of normality. I just imagine the first few days we can get together as non stop talking and laughing as we catch up with our friends.
I hope that by this time, the majority of our members have had at least one “jab” and are looking forward to the second. I felt like I had won a lottery when the first one hit the skin. Sign of the times, when a needle can excite us..
Many of our members have taken advantage of the various technical options we have now. There are so many opportunities to learn, travel, laugh, visit and connect using our “techy toys” and we have been very grateful for these.
I would like to point out a couple opportunities that are coming up that you might be interested in.
To celebrate Seniors’ month, Jenna Sudds, our Kanata North Councillor, is hosting a Seniors Seminar. The date is June 2, 1-3 pm The purpose of the seminar is to discuss ongoing projects and to hear directly what improvements you are interested in seeing in our community. There will be a Q/A opportunity.
This will be streamed on Facebook Live, as well as a Zoom meeting
The Ottawa Public Library is also celebrating Seniors’ month with a series for Older Adults… It is called” Aging Well Together at the Library:Wellness Fridays for Older Adults”. This is in partnership with the City of Ottawa and funded by the City of Ottawa Older Adult Plan. This series will run from June to December 2021 and will offer classes on drawing, movement and writing. Kits with supplies and instructions will be provided to each participant. Another note from OPL, they would like everyone to know that they have eliminated late fees for overdue books. All past overdue fees have been removed as well. They are hoping this will encourage borrowers to return long overdue material so that others might enjoy them.
