Senior's FAQ
Most frequent questions and answers
The “Centre” and the “Council” are two separate organizations.
The “Centre” is operated by the City of Ottawa and provides both facilities and activities for seniors in the Kanata and surrounding areas.
The “Council” is a private, not-for-profit, charitable corporation, whose mandate is “Seniors Helping Seniors.”
The “Centre” works in close cooperation with the “Council” and provides space for the Council’s office, the Cafe, and Computer Room within the Centre’s facilities.
In addition to having provided seed money for the Kanata Seniors’ Centre, the Council now provides an advisory function to the city. In addition, the Council has outfitted the kitchen in the Centre and operates the Council Cafe and travel club as well as providing computer lessons and other activities to help seniors lead a healthy and active life.
Another difference is that you require an annual membership in the Centre to participate in their many activities while membership in the Council is free. We highly recommend signing up for both memberships.
The Kanata Senior’s Council has a number of technically competent volunteers to assist you with your computer, tablet, or smartphone needs.

Accessible parking permits
Accessible parking permits are issued to a person or business and not a vehicle. Permit holders must have been in the vehicle and the permit displayed on the dashboard in order to park in an accessible parking space.
Click here for the Service Ontario website and information on getting and renewing your accessible parking permit.
“Perfect” is very subjective but here’s my formula:
Six parts gin or vodka to
One part vermouth and
Add 4-6 olives. (Add a little olive juice for a “dirty” martini.)
